Alkaline Water Facts

I live out in the country and we have well water. We have a water ionizer but occasionally our water gets “dirty” looking or starts to smell more than usual. We are new to the country life and someone told us we need to “clean out” the ionizer or mentioned “flushing it out”… There is supposed to be some sort of button or something, I have no idea.
