Question by : Is Alkaline water to contribute to joint pain and inflammation?
I have been drinking alkaline water on and off for several months. I have been having terrible ball of foot pain and knee pain and more recently other joint pain- elbow, wrist. My friend suggested that it could be due to the water. I drink the 9.5 when I have it. Sometimes I drink regular bottle water and regular ice cubes as well so I really didn’t think it was to attribute to my pain. Just wondered what anyone else thought about all my pains.

Best answer:

Answer by onlymatch4u
Yes, it absolutely could be due to the water. Alkaline water is a scam that has seem to caught on due to some clever marketing and distribution of misinformation. The idea caught on when it became obvious it is desirable to have the internal body in an alkaline state and the outside of the body (such as on the skin & hair) to be acidic.

The problem is that the first place the water gets to when you drink it in terms of a destination, is your stomach. And what does your stomach contain? Hydrochloric acid. It is produced in the parietal cells of the stomach at an acidic level of 0.8 pH or almost pure acid. When the alkaline water enters the stomach, the acid neutralizes the alkalinity and turns the water acidic. This needs to happen because if the pH of the stomach is higher than 3.0, very little calcium, magnesium, and zinc are absorbed in the jejunum (upper part of the small intestine).

Fortunately, the amount of minerals in water is minimal and that is what regulates the pH. If you are using an ionizer to make the alkaline water and filling it with tap water, you need to think about what that means. Tap water contains all kinds of pollutants, disinfecting byproducts that are about 10,000 times more harmful than chlorine. When you ionize that water, all the ions separate and are free to recombine with any of the other elements in the water. So you end up with all kinds of very strange combinations. One free radical is generated called the OH- ion. This free radical can cross the blood brain barrier and damage the nigral cells that produce dopamine.

Alkaline water brings in hydroxides that begins to oxidize the body. In the short run, people feel better drinking alkaline water, but the long run it is not good. Japanese research has made this very clear.

Acidic water brings Hydrogen Ions into the body that the body needs. Natural spring water is around 7.0 pH or a little less and that is good water. It is a little acidic and produced in nature.

Inflammation around the joints is due to infection. The body responds to infection by creating inflammation to increase blood flow to the area. The omega 6 fatty acids create inflammation. The omega 3 fatty acids decrease inflammation. It’s important to increase your intake of omega 3 fatty acids and decrease the omega 6 fatty acids. Fat digestion plays a big part in the success or failure of addressing this inflammation problem. If you have an insufficient gallbladder or insufficient liver for any reason, you will not be digesting your fats well and this can play a big part in how your body is able to cope with infections.

Knee pain as you have described it, can be attributed to kidney insufficiency. This is very common in America today. Dehydration is the number one deficiency. The average person needs water at the following rate:

Take your total body weight and divide by 2. That number is the amount of water in ounces that you need to drink each and everyday. Along with that, you should consume 1/4 teaspoon of “air dried sea salt” in conjunction with each quart of water you drink. This puts the electrolytes in your body that will give you proper hydration. The typical white table salt you buy in stores like the Morton Salt, for instance, is terrible for you and has loads of chemicals added. Avoid that junk. If you drink ANY diuretic drinks like, sodas, coffee, tea, alcohol, commercially prepared fruit drinks, energy drinks, etc., these all dehydrate you and you will need to add more water to the total to compensate for the water loss due to these diuretic drinks. Take the total ounces of the diuretic drinks and multiply by 1.5 and add that total to the original total to come up with the proper amount of water you need to drink each day.

Good luck to you

Question by : Is an alkaline water machine really a healthy lifetime investment?
My wife is considering purchasing an alkaline water machine for our home and offices. I personally don’t have a problem drinking tap water, but my wife insists that this will be a wonderful life investment. She claims the health benefits are numerous and insists that we purchase this product. How will the purchase of an alkaline water machine benefit mine and my wife’s health?

Best answer:

Answer by Harley Drive
alkaline water will damage your intestines and your tissue , alkalis dissolve human tissue and can cause all kinds of internal problems, the human body is predominantly acidic, as in my other answer you are asking for trouble if you ingest any amount of alkaline substances long term

Question by : Are there really benefits to drinking alkaline bottled water?
I have been hearing about alkaline bottled water as a healthy alternative to regular bottled water or filtered tap water. What is the importance or the benefits, if any, from drinking this type of water?

Best answer:

Answer by Erick
There are in fact benefits in drinking bottled alkaline water. Our diets consist of so many acidic foods that throw our pH balance off. This makes our kidneys and lymph system vulnerable to bacteria and micro-organisms because of the acidic levels in our body. Other issues such as, our environment, stressors, and lifestyle can also contribute to an acidic pH level.

Alkaline bottled water with a pH of at least eight to nine is the best choice. Alkaline water will aid in weight loss by reducing cravings because it will make you feel thirsty and lead you to drink more water. This increased water intake will make you feel fuller, and most of the time when we think we are hungry, we are actually just dehydrated. Also, with the extra hydration, the body will maintain a normal and healthy blood flow.

Other health benefits of alkaline bottled water are to reduced digestion issues and asthma symptoms. This water will also aid in the removal of harmful toxins from our body. These toxins can aid free radicals in damaging our cells. Additionally, our body loose approximately over a half gallon of fluids a day and this bottled water will help replenish the minerals we lose.

What do you think? Answer below!

How did the Egyptians know that the soap they made would “clean” or kill germs?
what caused them to discover it? And i have my suspicions, but can someone confirm… was it a result of the knowledge of Alchemy? (aka because it was first made with ash…popular in alchemical methods)
here is all the history i know from WIKI… can someone answer my above questions?
Early history

The earliest recorded evidence of the production of soap-like materials dates back to around 2800 BC in Ancient Babylon.1 In the reign of Nabonidus (556-539 BCE) a recipe for soap consisted of u?ulu ashes, cypress oil and sesame seed oil “for washing the stones for the servant girls”.2 A formula for soap consisting of water, alkali and cassia oil was written on a Babylonian clay tablet around 2200 BC.

The Ebers papyrus (Egypt, 1550 BC) indicates that ancient Egyptians bathed regularly and combined animal and vegetable oils with alkaline salts to create a soap-like substance. Egyptian documents mention that a soap-like substance was used in the preparation of wool for weaving.
question back to Julie T…I figure they prob wouldn’t know about the physical microbes etc.. but i guess my question is this, what was “clean” to them what is implied by “clean” ex: they noticed dirt came off… or was it a religious type of cleansing? what posses them to use such ingredients… what goal were they trying to achieve..ex: we desire to paint indoors… we search for an indoor paint… all i have found is that they had recipes for lye and used it to clean them selves and objects… how did they develop this knowledge and method especially without knowing of germs..howd they know to use those ingredients with that process… ? just curious…not life or death question but just weird… its like seeing a cave man invent a rubber tire… where would he learn how to refine the petroleum lol (fake example but you get the point)…

Best answer:

Answer by Julie T
Egyptians knew nothing about “germs” or microbes, but they used soap to be clean – as they enjoyed being clean. They also made Papyrus -so that they could write each other – other civilizations used clay tablets -

Question by babyface101: Can you tell me if the research paper for my science project is okay? and tell me whats wrong too. i need it.?
Question: Can A Plant Survive Being Watered by Greywater?

Variables:
*independent: Greywater
*dependent: The plant’s survival.
Hypothesis: If greywater is used to water a plant then the plant will die.
BUT If greywater is said to be somehow good for the plants, then maybe the plant will grow.
Background Research:
What is greywater?
What does it contain?
What are its said effects?
Are detergents alkaline or acidic?

Report:

Related Experiments on Greywater and Plant Growth:

“Greg Cloud was interested in exploring ways to reduce water usage, and decided to try an experiment with greywater and plants for his science fair project. He designed a well-controlled experiment to test whether or not greywater would damage plants. Half of the plants in his study were watered with greywater, and the other half with normal tap water. He made daily observations and measurements to assess the health of the plants in both groups. Greg’s project brought him all the way to the 2007 California State Science Fair, where he won a Science Buddies Clever Scientist award.”
http://sciencebuddies.com/science-fair-projects/project_ideas/EnvSci_p040.shtml?fave=no&from=TSW&isb=c2lkOjEsaWE6RW52U2NpLHA6MSxyaWQ6MTUyNjgyNQ
Myca T. also did an experiment on greywater effect. She research about the effect of Potable vs. Gray Water on Radish Growth.

Greywater

“Greywater, also known as sullage, is non-industrial wastewater generated from domestic processes such as dish washing, laundry and bathing.Greywater comprises wastewater generated from all of the house’s sanitation equipment except for the toilets (water from toilets being blackwater). Greywater is distinct from blackwater in the amount and composition of its chemical and biological contaminants (from feces or toxic chemicals).”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greywater

Information of Some People’s Use of Greywater:
“In arid communities with annual water shortages, such as California, Florida and the Southwest, gray water systems have been in use since the 1980s.
There are still some parts of the country where using gray water is actually illegal. The main concern is the potential for adverse health effects. Gray water can contain harmful microorganisms, which is why gardeners should follow some common-sense practices, such as not using it on plants that will be eaten.”
http://www.gardeners.com/Keep-Plants-Green-with-Gray-Water/5338,default,pg.html

Said Benefits:

Using grey water can lessen your fresh water(white water from groundwater or potable water)use and bills because you are now using something other than tapwater for watering your plants.”And because the wastewater you’re using on your garden isn’t getting pumped back to the city’s wastewater treatment system, you’re also saving energy”.

Is Detergent and Soap Alkaline or Acid?:
Research:

Detergents

A detergent is a substance that cleans a soiled surface. Soap is a type of detergent. Detergents are produced as bars, flakes, grains, liquids and tablets. People use detergents to wash dishes, laundry, floors, windows and other household items. Doctors even use detergents to kill germs. These cleaners contain a basic cleaning agent called surfactants or surface-active agent. Surfactants attach themselves to dirty particles then pull out dirty particles and store them until the soap and dirty particles are washed away. Most detergents contain a man-made product plus other chemicals. These other chemicals may improve cleaning ability or make the product easier to use. Soaps and detergents often have added colors or perfumes. Most surfactants used today are biodegradable.

Answer by PokeyOaks
Granted I’m going on what was submitted, I don’t know if you’re using any graphics for the rate at which particular particles are filtered from the water that may be harmful to the plant(s), but other than what I’ve just read, I’d say it’s actually really well written and put together.

Question by lbw1969: Does Alkaline water leave an acid ‘ash’ in the body?
If we drink a glass of water with lemon added, although the lemon is acid, health people say it makes our bodies (at a cellular level), more alkaline by leaving an alkaline ‘ash’ – so then, what does alkaline water do to us? I see lots of companies selling drops that turn your drinking water to p.H. 9 – but surely if the acidic lemon has an alkaline effect, does the alkaline water have an acid effect on our bodies?

Best answer:

Answer by CurazyJ
Whoa!!! I haven’t heard this big of a line of BS in a long time!!! First off, you need to check your sources for this “info” you’ve been getting. Where are their numbers? Have there been any studies on this that have been replicated? Beware of stories that sound too good to be true. Pseudoscience is VERY insidious and can sound better than the real thing many times! Second, you need to know how to search in real scientific journals and research articles to get the straight dope. Ok, that said, here’s my answer…

There is no way for an acidic water to turn you alkaline. Acidity is only, and I repeat, only having to do with the amount of free H+ ions there are floating around in the solution. Basicity (or alkalinity) just means there’s a greater amount of OH- ions than H+ ions. These companies you mention who sell drops “to make your water more alkaline” are selling you snake oil in a different disguise. As for your example of lemonade, a lemon has so many things in it it’s mind boggling. There’s the acid(s) you are aware of, then there are sugars, salts, proteins, oils, minerals, vitamins, etc. Some of these components may have an alkaline character when isolated in a laboratory but the lemon as a whole, is acidic, mainly due to the citric acid it contains.

Hopefully this helps you watch what you believe when you hear a story or anecdote of a product that makes outrageous claims. In general, any product that claims to do something magical “at the cellular level,” you should probably run away screaming.

Question by memuro: benefits of alkaline water?
I’m buying alkaline water that comes from a deep well in Luquillo, Puerto Rico and what I have read is that the alkaline water is produced either by special drops in normal water or by filtering machines (very expensive by the way) , so I have doubts about the water I’m buying. How can I know if this water is really alkaline? Is their a any other option?

Best answer:

Answer by Jesse
I’m sorry to say this, but you’re getting ripped off.

While there is currently no evidence that says that it hurts to drink it, it doesn’t really do anything to help you. Your stomach acid will neutralize the pH of the water as soon as it passes through your esophagus. If you were able to change your blood pH you would rapidly develop Metabolic alkalosis.

Metabolic alkalosis develops when the body loses too much acid or gains too much base. For example, stomach acid is lost during periods of prolonged vomiting or when stomach acids are suctioned with a stomach tube (as is sometimes done in hospitals). In rare cases, metabolic alkalosis develops in a person who has ingested too much base from substances such as baking soda (bicarbonate of soda). In addition, metabolic alkalosis can develop when excessive loss of sodium or potassium affects the kidneys’ ability to control the blood’s acid-base balance. For instance, loss of potassium sufficient to cause metabolic alkalosis may result from the use of diuretics or corticosteroids.

A better option would be to spend your money on something besides water, which you can get from any sink, drinking fountain, or water fountain.

Hope that helps!

Is Kangen water really good for you?

Best answer:

Answer by dave
“Alkaline water” is part of a large internet scam. Most water obtained from boreholes is alkaline, I hear of people who spend huge amounts of money for a small bottle of what other people call tap water.

Any acid/alkaline health info you’ve read on the net is in fact total rubbish.

The benefits of drinking ionized water are widely known. Ionized water serves as an antioxidant, it improves hydration, improves the taste of food plus, being alkaline, it has all the benefits of alkalinity on the body.

Ionized water is powerful, so powerful that those who make their living from selling bottled water or pharmaceuticals that treat diseases that are caused by acidic life-styles are determined to undermine the validity of ionization, but it is a losing battle.
The market for water with a pH greater than 7.5 is increasing in the United States as more and more individuals are made aware of the benefits of ionized water. With a wider variety of ionizers available, it is important for the consumer to understand what exactly they are looking for in a water ionizer, what it needs to be able to do, which means they need to understand not only the product they are looking at, but the history of the process itself. Considering the purchase of a Chanson Water Ionizer is no different.

The History of Water Ionization

The history of water ionization can be traced back to Michael Faraday and his invention of the electrolysis device; a machine that allowed for the electronic separation of water into hydrogen and oxygen; a technology that is the foundation of water ionization. But Faraday never realized just what applications his device would have. That fell to the lot of one Dr. Henri Coanda, a Rumanian scientist in the 1930′s.

Dr. Henry Coanda was the first to explore the usage of water in the world of applied science; specifically in the field of fluid dynamics. His obsession with the chemical make-up of water wasn’t based solely on his scientific interests, but on a search for longevity and his personal belief that the unique chemistry of water of Hunza would prove to be a source of longevity. He traveled to Hunza where he continued to do research on the chemical makeup of the water and the results of his research astounded all of those that he presented it to.

          ]]>

Dr. Coanda’s research proved to be the foundation for further scientific research that was conducted by Russian and Japanese scientists. Based on their findings, and coupled with Faraday’s invention, the Japanese produced the first water ionizer and in 1954 Japanese universities began researching the applications of alkaline ionic water and acid waters. Both plants and animals were used in the Japanese research and over the decades the technology has improved to the point that small household-sized water ionizers can be produced at a relatively inexpensive rate.

What are Water Ionizers?

Water ionizers are appliances that separate water into two parts through the process of electrolysis. Electrolysis uses an electric charge present only in certain minerals that are available in drinking water to separate the alkaline aspects of water from the acidic aspects of water. Studies have been done that prove that alkaline water is beneficial in the treatment of a wide variety of diseases. It also serves as a powerful antioxidant which can help to slow the aging process as well as eliminating free radicals and serving as a sterilizing liquid. There are many on the market today, some do what they claim, and others are simply cheap appliances made to rip off an unsuspecting public. It is important that the purchaser do their research when considering the purchase of a water ionizer.

Chanson Water Ionizers

So, what makes the Chanson brand different from other water ionizers? Chanson Alkaline Water Ionizers produce water that increase hydration by producing water that has water clusters smaller than regular molecule clusters. This “microwater” is six times more hydrating than conventional oxygen, which means that it helps to increase your metabolism as well as your energy.

During the ionization process, a Chanson Water Ionizer charges the Hydroxyl Ions to search out and neutralize the agents that cause disease and premature aging – also known as free radicals. Charged water, such as that which comes out of a Chanson Water Ionizer, has hundreds of very small bubbles in it; visual proof that the water now carries a negative charge or ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential).

But Chanson Water don’t just make the best quality product, Chanson takes great pride in understanding the health benefits of ionized alkaline water and in educating the customer regarding the truth about ionization as well as the positives and negatives of the different ionizers on the market, for Chanson has tested every major brand of water ionizer using every major test and measurement available so that the customer doesn’t have to.
